On Lisheng (Net Tonnage),Shape and Structure of Ships in the Song Dynasty

【中文摘要】宋代造船业和航运业空前发展，但是对于宋代航行于水情不同水域中的船舶形制的区别、船的大小，现有研究只做简略的分类，尚没有整体的考察。对于宋人通常用于表示载重总体的力胜、表示船舶形制大小的料的含义、料与力胜的关系等，也说法不一。事实上，宋代表示船舶装载能力的力胜主要指船舶的有效载货容积，即净吨位；表示船舶力胜的“料”是容积单位。船舶的形制决定于其航行的水情，宋代船舶总体上可以分为运河船、内河船和海船三大类，它们的形制和力胜各不相同。对宋代船舶力胜和形制的研究，可更深入地认识宋代船舶的特点。 【Abstract】The shipbuilding and shipping industry got unprecedented development in the Song Dynasty. There is no overall study about thesize，shape and structure of ships sailing in different waters in the Song Dynasty. There are many different views on meanings of lisheng ( overall carrying capacity) and liao (the size of ships)，the relationship between lisheng and Hao. In fact，lisheng means net tonnage，liao is a volume unit. The shape and structure of ships were decided on water regimen. There were three kinds of ships ： canal ship， river ship and sea ship. They had different lisheng ( net tonnage )，shape and structure. Study on lisheng，shape and structure of ships will contribute to a more in-depth understanding of characteristics of the ship in the Song Dynasty.
