Empirical Analysis of Difference of Returns to Education Between Rural and Urban Areas ： Based on the Data of CHIP2002

【中文摘要】我国城乡教育回报率存在较大差异，以Mincer方程为基础，利用CHIP2002数据，可以有效地考察城乡教育回报率的差异。以受教育年限为解释变量，加入性别、家庭背景等控制变量进行回归的结果表明，城乡年教育回报率差距为3.40%，再加入职位性质与产业类型控制变量后， 城乡年教育回报率差距缩小为3. 09%。以文化水平为虚拟变量的回归结果表明，城乡教育回报率在中等教育、高等教育两个阶段存在显著的结构性差异。总体上看，城镇样本中等、高等阶段的教育回报率均高于农村样本。研究表明，在收入差异和教育回报率差异的共同作用下，我国城乡之间可能形成教育一收入的“马太效应”。 【Abstract】Based on the data of CHIP2002 and on the Mincer's earning function, the difference of returns to education between rural and urban areas can be estimated through OLS regression efficiently with control variables added into the model. With the years of schooling being one of the independent variables and the variables control for sex, family background, etc. added into the model, the gap between returns to education in rural and urban areas is estimated to be 3. 40%. And this gap is narrowed down to 3. 09% with control variables of occupation and industry added into the model. When we use the dummy variables for education level in the regression, significant structural differences are observed in rates of return to middle school education and college education between the two areas. Generally speaking, both returns to middle school education and college education in urban areas are higher than those in rural areas.
