dc.description.abstractTwo isomeric cadmium(II) diphosphonates built up from corner-sharing CdO(6) octahedra and CPO(3) tetrahedra, with the same formula of [Cd(H(3)L)(2)] (H(4)L = (CH(3))(2)N-CH(PO(3)H(2))(2)), have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Compound I shows a 1D chain structure in which the adjacent Cd(2+) ions are doubly bridged by two equivalent H(3)L(-) anions, whereas compound 2 exhibits a novel non-centro-symmetric 3D framework which is formed by a pillared-layer array, with one type of H(3)L(-) anions participating in the construction of a 2(1)-symmetry layer and the other type of H(3)L(-) anions acting as pillars.
