Abstract

During the perio d of Japanese occupation the Government-General of Taiwan specified 29 items(68places)national historic sites, but 14 items(53 places)national historic sites were connected with the colonization and wars. The Japanese colonists emphasize the legitimacy of colonial regime by the national historic sites. After the retrocession of Taiwan, the Kuomintang authorities modified the stone steles, and tried to eliminate colonial historical memory. Whether colonization or decolonization, it is a part of Taiwan historical memory, and should be treated equally. When we record colonization,we should completely record the historical scenes and actually understand the suffering of the colonized.
