Abstract

The urbanization from the 1980s can be seen from the village folk religion. Taking tile custom of Struck God in Yanzao as an example, the origin of the legend suggested that this custom was probably one form of Sacrificed King custom. The comparison between its past and present reveals that the ceremony inherited few original elements. Due to its satisfying people' s yearning for rationalization of violence and other illegal feelings, it continued existence while undergo- ing change. In recent years, local force exerted influence on the religious ceremony, and also manifested the sacrificed king from the performance of body force to the performance of local power. It was the invisibility of "power" and the change of the ceremony, which showed the process how rural urbanization disorganized the traditional village.
