Rulinwaishi, The Scholars in English is Wu Jingzi's collection of historical data based on what he saw and heard. It was called "Unofficial History", so it can be read as a folk history or unofficial history, at least no problem as a material of social history. From the back half of the fifteenth chapter and the first half of the twentieth chapter, the life locus of Kuang Chaoren from Yueqing county, Wenzhou is recorded inside. He did business out with other people from an impoverished family, lost money in business, wandered in the streets of Hangzhouon, funded by Mr. Ma Chunshang, went back home and filial to the utmost to his parents, attended school, sat for an examination, etc..These material revealed Yueqing's local intellectual ethos and social customs here and there, including the concept of marriage, filial piety, scholarship honor and official rank as well as social values with somewhat typical sense or a certain universality.
