In October and November 2010, the Archaeology Specialty, Department of History of Xiamen University and other institutions excavated four lithic quarries of Fubin Culture in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties including Houcuoshan Site at the middle reach of Longjin Rivulet in Changtai County, Fujian Province. Among these four lithic quarries, Houcuoshan Site was the best preserved with pure cultural contents, the main remains of which were the blank and refuse of stone adzes and accumulations of large amount of flakes, as well as a few pottery wares, but no residential and living remains were discovered, showing that this site was only a primary processing camp for stone implement production. The excavation and recovering of these lithic quarry remains provided large amounts of physical materials for the restoration research of the stone implement making techniques of Fubin Culture, and were also significantly meaningful for the explorations on the production and trading methods of stone implements in the southeastern coastal regions during the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.
