【Abstract】In ancient Chinese wordbooks, there is only the even tone Fanqie of “闽”,which sounds like “蛮” or “民”,And there is also only the even tone pronunciation in Fujian. In modern mandarin,“闽”is primarily pronounced as “闵”(the falling-rising tone),which should be standardized as “min”(the rising tone) according to the rule of “adaptation to original names”. In ancient times,“闽”was the ethnic name and the name of country and dialect as well. Moreover ,it also reflects the totem worship of snakes and has a deep connection to the historical and cultural worship of Fujian and its surrounding areas. Therefore,“闽”is an important concept, which should be thoroughly studied when researching the history, dialect and culture of Min and the southeast oceanic culture.zh_CN
