The hermits' motivations of withdrawing from society and the roads towards it of Tang Dynasty

In Tang Dynasty, there were many hermits who had ever been literators. The reasons why they withdrew from society were different from each other——some were firm in seclusion, some retired from political life after being officials for a few years, and some withdrew from society only for acquiring chances to walk into political circles. Of course, there were a lot of people who acted both as hermits and officials. The motivations of their withdrawing and the roads towords it were various. This article will try to say something about the question, though it is very difficult to summarize. The research of this question is necessary and will be helpful for us to know more about the hermits' thoughts, states of minds and the social reasons of their coming into being.
