Analysis and Simulation of Networks' Competition with Switching Costs and Lock-in

研究网络外部性条件下切换成本对网络的成长和竞争所造成的影响.通过对Fischer＆Pry模型进行扩展,建立了存在切换成本和正的网络效应时网络成长的竞争模型,并对其进行了不同数据的模拟.结果表明:由于存在网络外部性,当竞争的网络间切换成本相差不大时,早期的采用非常关键,早期用户数的微弱优势可能使占优的网络在竞争中完全获胜,并最终独占市场;而当一个网络已经出现明显的规模优势时,尽管其切换成本很高,用户也会趋向于切换到该网络中.In this paper, we study the effects of switching costs on networks' growth and competition when network externalities exist. By extending Fischer&Pry model, we develop a dynamic model of two competing networks when switching costs and network externalities exist , and simulate the competition between two networks using different data. The results indicate slender advantage of the number of customers who adopt some network early can make this network win completely and monopolize market, when switching costs between competing networks are almost same. We also find that customers tend to switch to the network which appears evident size advantage, even if it's switching costs is large.
