Fluorescence quenching method for the determination of trace nitrite
Abstract
A simple and sensitive fluorescence quenching method for the determination of nitrite has been investigated. The method is based on the reaction of nitrite with potassium iodide giving iodine(I-2),which is estimated by the fluorescence quenching method using 2'7'-dichlorofluorescein. The calibration graph is linear over the range 10 similar to 120 mu g per liter nitrite. The detection limit is 5.6 mu g per liter nitrite. The method has been applied successfully to the determination of nitrite in synthetic mixtures and analytical reagents.
