【Abstract】21st century,China's aging population is growing more and more rapidly. And most studies have suggested that lifestyle and health of the elderly is closely related， and moreover, that lifestyle is an important indicator to measure the quality of the elderly life. Significantly, the number of female elderly is impressively larger than that of their male counterparts, so diet is of great importance to undertake research on the elderly lifestyle from a gender perspective. A analysis of the data from the Chinese Longitudinal Health Longevity Survey (CLHLS) , reveals that： there exists statistically significant gender differentials between the socio-economic characteristics, diet, use of alcohol, tobacco, physical activity and entertainment choices among the Chinese elderly. And the female elderly are significantly worse than the male in many of the indicators of lifestyle and dietary conditions, in addition to tobacco and alcohol consumption. The study also indicates that gender differences in the elderly lifestyle are not entirely biological, but rather are more to shape by socio-economic, socio-culture and other factors. Based on the statements above, and the current health policy in China, vis-a-vis gender, this paper suggests that gender should be considered when developing community services and designing health policy and regulations.
