Sǒnggyungwan and Civil Service Examination in Chosǒn Dynasty in Korea

【中文摘要】朝鲜王朝时代的科举以学校教育为基础而被制度化。朝鲜王朝初期的成均馆教育以培养文官人才为目标,教育课程与文科考试科目相互对应,其教育理念体现了与科举之间的密切联系。十六七世纪,由于教育机会的扩大以及儒生人数的增加,科举与学校教育逐步被分离开。自18世纪中期开始,成均馆考试被当作文科考试的一种,20%—30% 的文科合格者都是通过成均馆考试而及第的。这说明,此时的成均馆考试逐渐呈现出科举化的倾向。 【Abstract】 Since Song China, the civil service examination had been institutionalized based on school education. However, the gap between the examination and school education grew larger as the competition for passing the exam became increasingly intense. This situation was especially prominent in Chosǒn Korea. According to recent scholarship, however, the school became closely related to the civil service examination as the examination administered by Sǒnggyungwan, the Confucian academy, served as one of the state examinations since mid-eighteenth-century Korea. This paper examined the relationship between the school system and the examination system through Sǒnggyungwan in the Chosǒn dynasty.
