Abstract
The reaction of Cu(OH)(2) (in situ synthesized from CuCl(2)center dot 2H(2)O and NaOH), bpp and H(2)ox gave rise to a novel Cu(II) coordination polymer under ultrasonic irradiation at ambient temperature, namely [Cu(bpp)(ox)-(H(2)O)center dot 5H(2)O](n) (1) (bPP = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane, H(2)ox = oxalic acid). In the complex 1, Cu(II) cations are bridged by bpp ligands to form a one-dimensional (1D) infinite wave-like polymeric chain. The coordinated ox(2-) anions and water molecules interact with each other by six different hydrogen-bonding motifs and extend the 1D polymeric chain into a two-dimensional (2D) bilayer pattern. Of further interest, one 10 T4(0)A(0) water tape consisting of alternate cyclic water tetramers resides in the channel structure of 1. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
