Abstract
郭秉文以其独特的办学理念和杰出的育人成就享誉海内外,他认为:通识教育是“个体参与日常生活之准备“,而非“为官员生活预备“;学校教育变革应适应现代社会生活需要,加强科学教育,传承本民族教育精华,更新道德教育内涵;大学教育是双向的国际文化教育,而非单一的西方或中国文化教育。其教育实践表明:通识教育是学习者通向成功之路;推进通识教育需融合中西教育之长;大学教育应通专结合;教学课程需保持人文与科学的平衡。
 
Guo Bingwen had a great reputation in the world for his unique educational philosophy and outstanding achievement in talent cultivation,he held that a liberal education was closely related to life,preparing the individual to participate in the daily activities of life,but not preparation for official life;the reform of education should meet the needs of modern social life,enhancing scientific education,inheriting our own merits which had been proved unquestionably best for China through the centuries of her wonderful history,and renewing the contents of moral training;the higher education should be two-way exchange for international culture,not be single west cultural or Chinese cultural education.Guo's education practice indicated that liberal general education was a way to success for learners;promoting general education should infuse the best of the West into Chinese educational merits;university education should insist the balance of generalists and specialists;the training of curriculum should keep the balance of the humanity and science.
