Abstract SurFace Raman spectroscopic studies have been successFully extended to Ni electrode surFace by using a highly sensitive conFocal Raman microscope system.DiFFerent surFace roughening procedures were carried out to obtain high quality surFace enhanced spectra.Potential dependent Raman spectra of pyridine, pyrazine, SCN -, N - 3 and CO show that a roughened surFace can not only increase the surFace area but also induce a weak SERS signal.This new progress ofFers the possibility of extending surFace Raman spectroscopic studies to Ni electrodes For the important system of electrocatalysis and provides new insight into the understanding of SERS mechanism(s).
